WHYCSA

WHYCSA Website

The Watch Hill Yacht Club Sailing Association was established in 2006 by members of the Watch Hill Yacht Club as a nonprofit philanthropic community outreach initiative. Today, the Sailing Association functions as an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) with its own separate Board of Directors.  The collaboration between the WHYC Board and its membership has been instrumental in the success of the Sailing Association.

The Sailing Association through its programs and sponsorships is committed to instilling the ideals, traditions and spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork that are the founding principles of the WHYC.

“It’s a sign of a great club when opportunity and resources are extended to youth sailors of non-members for the sole purpose of promoting the skills and ideals to many who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the sport that we all love.” - Robert Garraty

Blue Bell

Built in 1971 by Frank Hall Boat Yard in Westerly, Rhode Island, Blue Bell is Hull #4 of the One Design WH15 fleet. She has had five owners in her lifetime and retains her sail number #4 today.  Blue Bell has been sailed and raced regularly for 50 years!

In 2008 Nelson White, Jr. retired from sailing after a 20-year career and his wish was that Blue Bell remain an active member of the WH15 fleet. He donated Blue Bell to the WHYCSA and her legacy continues with a whole new generation of aspiring young sailors who wish to experiencing the thrill and intricacies of sailing a WH 15.  Special programs such as “Sail 15” are specifically designed for juniors 10+ are coached by an onboard instructor in a group setting.

The WHYCSA currently owns and maintains Blue Bell and she continues to be an integral part of the WH 15 fleet.  Blue Bell competes regularly and competitively in the Wednesday night and Saturday WH15 races throughout the summer. Junior and amateur non-members sailors are encouraged to be part of her crew.
